About Us
City of Downey Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit
financial institution owned and operated by its members through
a democratically elected board of director who volunteers their
time. The credit union was founded in 1957 by Downey City firefighters
and started as the Downey City Employees' Federal Credit
Union. We primarily serve the Downey City Employees
and their families. The credit union also serves a number of
Special Employer Groups (SEGs) whose employees and family members
can also take advantage of the various products and services
the credit union has to offer.
Our SEGs include:
- Park Water Company
- SEAACA
- Downey Dental Center
- Downey Engineering Company
- Jiffy Lube & Oil Company
- Downey Rose Float Association
The name City
of Downey Federal Credit Union was adopted in 2003
to better describe our diverse field of membership within the
City of Downey. Also in 2003, the credit union became part
of what the credit union industry refers to as the Shared
Resource Solution (SRS), a term coined for us by the
industry to specifically describe our unique structure of sharing
management and expertise with other credit unions. We are currently
an SRS with CalCom ($28-million in assets), Mattel ($25-million
in assets) Federal Credit Unions, and Watts United Credit Union
($1.5-million in assets).
